Research has shown that traditional methods of client supervision do not change delinquent and offending behavior or reduce recidivism. For behavior change and recidivism reduction to be possible, clients must understand the personal and enviornmental factors that led them to their offending behavior and teach them the skills they need in order to make positive changes in the future. The Carey Guides are designed to equip corrections professionals with the information and tools they need to support these changes among their clients.
We know corrections professionals have a heavy workload and little time, so we have made the Guides short, practical, and easy to use. They are designed to help you do your job more effectively by translating evidence-based practices into a series of strategies and short exercises that we have named “15-Minute Tools." The title reflects the approach — short, quick, and to the point.
By June 2010, Carey Group Publishing will publish 33 handbooks to help corrections professionals use EBP with their clients. 13 Blue Guides address criminogenic needs and 20 Red Guides address case management.

Carey Group Publishing has assembled experienced and respected corrections professionals to develop each Guide. The Carey Group and an editorial panel guided the development of each Guide. Writer selection was based on both general and specific knowledge of EBP. Coming from different parts of the country and various sized agencies, each writer has developed several 15-Minute Tools to help corrections professionals support clients in their efforts to lead successful, law-abiding lives.
